Case study: Auric Bank-outsource or not?
Step 1: ask students to look through the background quickly and fill in the table.
Step 2: ask students to give a briefing about the case.
Step 3: Teacher explains the language points.
Key points: review, competitive price, reorganization, look at, in-house, outsource, operations, chief executive, boost profits and share price, directors, Plc, contract, etc..
Step 4: ask Ss to hold a board meeting.
Design: work in teams. Each team has a chairman who chairs the meeting, a secretary taking down minutes and presenting the final decision and the rest are directors who support their own option based on the information card. Prepare 4 mins and the finish the meeting within 8 mins. Teacher walks around to give instructions and make sure their meetings run smoothly.
Step 5: Invite secretaries to present their decision with brief reasons. Teacher makes comments.
Step 6: Homework: make a video of a board meeting during the spare time and post it by the end of sixth week in this term.
