As the seat of the United States federal government and several international organizations, Washington is an important world political capital.

Beginning:

Forrest Gump sits at a bus stop in Savannah Georgia, telling his life story to the strangers.

Development:

Forrest goes to visit Jenny and is shocked to know that he is the fatherof her son.

The film begins with a feather falling to the feet of Forrest Gump who is sitting at a bus stop in Savannah, Georgia.Forrest picks up the feather and puts it in the book Curious George, then tells the story of his life to a woman seated next to him. The listeners at the bus stop change regularly throughout his narration, each showing a different attitude ranging from disbelief and indifference to rapt veneration. 

     Forrest Gump said that he was born in Greenbow, Alabama. His mother is a strong-minded woman and determined to let her son live the same life as other people although Forrest’s IQ is only 75. She often says to Forrest “You are no different than anybody else” and “Stupid is as stupid does”. 

On his first day of school, he meets a girl named Jenny who is abused by her father. They become best friends. In their secondary school, in order to escape the villain schoolmates,Forrest Gump runs into a school’s football game. Having discarded his leg braces, his ability to run at lightning speed gets him into college on a football scholarship. In the college,he becomes a rugby star and gets the chance to meet President at the White House. 

After his college graduation, he enlists inthe army and is sent to Vietnam, where he makes fast friends with a black man named Bubba, who convinces Forrest to go into the shrimping business with him when the war is over. Later while on patrol, Forrest's platoon is attacked. Forrest Gump remembers what Jenny has told him to do and quickly runs out of the jungle. Then he thinks of his good friend Bubba and runs back to save Bubba risking his life. He rescues several lives before carrying Bubba out. Bubba is dead after telling Forrest that he wants to go home. The officer, Lieutenant Dan, is saved by Forrest but his legs get amputated. Forrest is awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroism and meets President as a war hero.   

While Forrest is in recovery for a bulletshot, he discovers his uncanny ability for ping-pong, eventually gaining popularity and rising to celebrity status, later playing ping-pong competitively against Chinese teams. At an anti-war rally in Washington, D.C.Forrest reunites with Jenny, who has been living a hippie counterculture lifestyle. She has changed a lot and refuses Forrest’s love. Then they go their own ways. 

Returning home from the army, Forrest endorses a company that makes ping-pong paddles, earning himself $25,000, which he uses to buy a shrimping boat, fulfilling his promise to Bubba. His commanding officer from Vietnam, Lieutenant Dan, joins him. Though initially Forrest has little success, after finding his boat the only surviving boat in the area after Hurricane Carmen, he begins to pull in huge amounts of shrimp and uses it to buy an entire fleet of shrimp boats. Lt. Dan invests the money in Apple Computer and Forrest is financially secure for the rest of his life.He returns home to see his mother's last days.Forrest often misses Jenny. Meanwhile Jenny goes astray in despair. 

One day, Jenny comes back to live with Forrest for a while. Forrest proposes marriage but gets refused. Forrest puts the past behind by running across the country. Three years later Forrest gets a letter from Jenny and goes to visit her. He is at first shocked by what Jenny tells him—he is the father of her son—but loves them whole heartedly. When Jenny tells him that she has a fatal disease and wants to marry him, they go back home together, get married, and spend Jenny’s last days in Greenbow. 

The film ends with father and son waiting for the school bus on little Forrest's first day of school. After Forrest sees his son off on the schoolbus, a feather that has dropped from the book he gave his son blows up on the wind. The white feather is caught on a breeze and drifts skyward just like the scene at the very beginning of the movie.
