定语从句的翻译--后置法

如果从句结构复杂，译成汉语前置定语显得太长而不符合汉语表达习惯时，往往可以译成后置的并列分句，与前面的分句构成并列关系。这种情况下，一般在后一分句开头重复一下先行词，也可用人称代词和指示代词引出该分句。

--译成并列分句，重复先行词

1. Stratford is the native place of Shakespeare I have longed for.

斯特拉特福镇是莎士比亚的故乡，是我向往的地方。

2. Most ranches are located in flat open country where there is plenty of glass for the cattle to feed on.

大多数牧场位于平坦开阔的地区，那里有充足的青草可供放牧。

(以下是两个非限制性定语从句例句）

3. Daylight comes from the sun, which is a mass of hot, glowing gas.

日光来自太阳，太阳是一团炽热、发光的气体。

4. I told the story to John, who told it to his brother.

1. He managed to raise a crop of 200 miracle tomatoes that weighed up to two pounds each.
