课文 Text



Poor Davy

The bell rang, and the children ran out happily into the bright sunshine.

Davy came out last and very slowly, but he did not laugh. He was in trouble, and the golden sunshine did not make him glad.

He walked across the yard, and sat down on a stone behind the old maple tree.

He was thinking of his classmates’ cruel words about his old clothes. The tears ran out of his eyes.

Poor Davy had no father, and his mother had to work hard to keep him at school.

That night, he went home and walked across the fields. He still felt sad.

Just then his teacher came along and said kindly, “What is the matter, Davy?”

He did not speak, but still cried.

“ Won’t you tell me? Perhaps I can help you.”

Then he told her all his trouble. When he ended, she said happily, “I have a plan.”

“ Oh, what is it?” he said.

“Well, how would you like to sell flowers?”

“And ear n money?” said Davy. “That would be interesting. But where shall I get my flowers?”

“Right in these fields,” said the teacher.

So day after day, Davy hunted the fields for the prettiest flowers and took them to the city and sold them.

He soon earned enough money to buy new clothes. Now the sunshine and the bird’s songs made him glad.




注解 Notes

1. Davy came out last and very slowly... 戴维最后一个慢慢走出来…… 

last and slowly 副词作状语。 

e.g. 

The children ran out happily.

孩子们高兴地跑了出来。

2. ... his mother had to work hard to keep him at school. ……他的母亲为了供他上学,不得不拼命工作。 

to keep him at school 在这里是动词不定式短语作目的状语。
