通知和告示
Notice and Announcement
通知和告示主要用于说明或者传达某件事情、某项活动等,重在言简意赅。文字要求简洁易懂,表达直截了当。
通知和告示一般分为两类,一类是有关部门就某事发出的通知或张贴的告示,此类文件要求结构严谨,用词确切,通常使用比较正式的文体。另一类是关于会议或活动的简单通知,此类文章至少需要包含以下内容:时间、地点、活动内容、参加人员范围以及其他必要细节。
写书面通知和告示时需注意以下几点:
1. 一般告示类文体都需要写标题,在上方居中位置写 NOTICE或Notice或Announcement。
2. 需要写上贴出告示的单位或者个人。发出通知的人或单位 的名称,一般写在标题的上方、正文后面的右下角或左下 角。
3. 发出通知的时间要写在正文的左下角或正文的右上角。
4. 正文要写明所做事情的具体时间、地点、概括性内容(多 为书面通知的首句)、通知对象及有关注意事项。
5. 被通知的单位或人员一般用第三人称,但如果带有称呼语,则用第二人称表示被通知的对象。
通知和告示常用句型:
1. Notice is hereby given that …
2. This is to notify that …
3. We inform you that …
4. I have the pleasure of announcing that …
5. We acquaint you with the information that …

Because of the rain the swimming competition will not be held at the New Town Swimming Pool as planned. It will be held at the Jackson Sports Center instead. Buses will be leaving school at 10:00 a.m. to take you to the Center. It’s about a 15-minute ride. You will be returning to school at 3:15 p.m. in time to catch your usual buses home.

Announcement
There is going to be a lecture, entitled Across Cultures: Digital Media and Literate Activity, in the meeting room of the English Department from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 11th. The lecture will be given by Professor Robert Johnson, who is from the Department of English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Professor Johnson is known for his unique probing of the many connections between literate activity and new information technologies. He will present, in his humorous style, the relation he has found between culture and technological development, which you surely will enjoy very much.
All teachers and students are welcome to attend this lecture.

The English Speaking Contest to be held on Sunday morning (December 18) will be delayed till next Thursday afternoon (December 22). It will be held in our Lecture Hall from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and the Lecture Hall is on the first floor of No. 3 Teaching Building. Five judges will be invited, including two foreign teachers. The first ten winners will be given awards as an encouragement. All the teachers and students are welcome to be present at the contest to cheer the contestants.
