Don't regret your college days

好时光都该被宝贝:Don't regret your college days | Chitchat

 CD君 CHINADAILY

We all have regrets. It's natural and not something to be ashamed of.

If you regret something, it only means that you still have room for improvement.

In fact, regrets can actually prevent us from making the same mistakes in the future.

In last week's Chitchat, we asked you to share your stories about the things you regret most about college life. Here are some of the top comments.

Your studies come first
@诗梦
One thing I regret most about my college years is that I didn't make full use of the time to study. Instead, I wasted a lot of time watching movies and hanging out with classmates. Only when it came to the third year did I realize the importance of studying hard and not idling the time away. Although I managed to end up with my ideal job upon graduation, I still think of myself as inferior to my co-workers in terms of professional abilities, which baffles me at work from time to time. My advice to college students today is don't kill time, or you will be killed by time.

But what about everything else?

@Lyn

I regret not spending more time making friends. Because I devoted much of my time to obtaining different certificates, I ignored many meaningful things and people. I should have engaged in more activities, such as taking part in English speech competitions, joining clubs and going to parties. I know I can't go back in time, but I will use the rest of my life to encounter more people and cherish them.

@Camellia

There are two things I regret most about college life. The first is not doing enough physical exercise. I didn't work out at all during the four years I was there and just stayed in my dormitory when I didn't have classes. As a result, I am not in good shape. The second thing I regret is not painting enough in my spare time, despite it being my hobby. I guess if I had put in more effort, I would have made more obvious progress. Time waits for no man, and we should all treasure the time we have at college.

@钟能君

Some people may have had a wonderful time at college, but I didn't. I spent nearly all my time studying. Despite this, I didn't score that highly in class, which made me despair. When I look back on my time at college, I mostly regret not finding a hobby, not working on character traits such as being persistent and optimistic, and not finding a loved one. In other words, I should have done so many meaningful things, but I didn't. Perhaps it's true, that you don't know what you've got till it's gone.

The experience matters
@哎呦喂

I think it's important that everyone experience college life. All the memories, happy or sad, are worth remembering and keeping in our hearts. Maybe you feel it's a pity that you didn't have a romantic relationship. Or maybe you regret breaking up with a loved one. But at least you went and experienced it, both the good and the bad. The answer will come in time.

@Amy

My biggest regret was not being brave enough to participate in the 21st Century English-speaking competition. Since my spoken English was not very good, I was worried about losing, so I didn't even take part in the first round. However, now I have realized that the real value of competing lies not in the winning, but in the taking part. It's an opportunity to broaden your horizons, but sadly, I didn't grasp it.

@Desperado

I didn't even attend college, which might be what I regret most.

No regrets

@Tina

Ten years has passed since I left college. I plan to go back to university in October. To be honest, I cannot think of anything I regret at this moment. There are so many beautiful memories, of good friends, activities, traveling, reading and learning English. Just treasure what you have and forget what you hate. Enjoy today!

@So-Call-Me-May

I thought for a while about any regrets that I might have from my college days. But it seems that everything is okay. I really had some great experiences and met some wonderful people. Maybe I didn't work hard enough, but never mind. I've got a lifetime to make up for it. Just seize the moment and keep moving on!

Whatever your regrets may be, don't feel trapped by the negative feelings. Think of them as perfect imperfections, to motivate you in life and in the years ahead!
