Read the Lead-in Case Success Story on Page 133. Following is the video of the case. 


After reading and watching the case, finish the following tasks with your group members.

1. Try to summarize this case.

2. Discuss the following questions with your group members. 

   1)    What kind of information did Mary expect to get from Goshima when she said "So tell me about one of your greatest success stories."?

   2)   Why did Ms. Goshima pause?

   3)   What do you think of Ms. Goshima's personality? Can you list as many adjectives as you can to describe her personality?

   4)    Do you think Goshima's verbal communication is influenced by Japanese culture? How did Japanese culture influence her communication?

   5)    Why is Mary disappointed? How do their verbal communication styles differ?
