Man detained for risking national security

The national security bureau in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, has detained a man surnamed Ma－at first falsely speculated to be Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma－on suspicion of endangering national security and inciting subversion of State power using networks.

The surname Ma, and the fact that Hangzhou is home to the e-commerce company, sparked public speculation when a brief was released on Tuesday morning that the accused man was Jack Ma. The report was later updated to indicate a third character in the accused person's name, whereas Jack Ma's full name in Chinese is Ma Yun, with only two characters.

The accused man was born in 1985 in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, and managed a technology company.

Legal Daily reported that Ma gradually formed a stubborn anti-government ideology under the influence of hostile outside "mentors" and became a tool for overseas anti-China forces. He not only incited secession, but also established illegal organizations, formulated political platforms and made young students the main target of demagoguery, encouraging them to participate in activities that discredit the nation.

Since March, Ma used his internet expertise to anonymously create network groups, distort and fabricate facts, vigorously spread all kinds of rumors and publish a so-called declaration of independence, acting as a domestic agent for overseas hostile forces.

He had repeatedly claimed that his ultimate goal was to subvert State power, and had gradually escalated his behaviors.

Ma started to draft a declaration and program of action, planned to set up a "provisional congress of the mainland" and commissioned people to formulate a "legal system", claiming to "overthrow the Chinese government with the help of foreign forces".

Authorities said his acts have caused serious harm to national security and social stability and vowed to fully investigate all his illegal and criminal activities.
