Sentence

1.Modern aircraft brakes are very efficient but on wet, icy or snow coveredrunways this efficiency may be reduced by the loss of adhesion between theaircraft tyre and the runway thus creating a need for an additional method ofbringing the aircraft to rest within the required distance.

5.Ideally, the gas should be directed in a completely forward direction. It isnot possible, however, to achieve this, mainly for aerodynamic reasons, and adischarge angle of approximately 45 degrees is chosen. Therefore, the effectivepower in reverse thrust is proportionately less than the power in forwardthrust for the same throttle angle.

12.The bucket target system is hydraulically actuated and uses bucket-type doorsto reverse the hot gas stream. The thrust reverser doors are actuated by meansof a conventional pushrod system. A single hydraulic powered actuator is connectedto a drive idler, actuating the doors through a pair of pushrods (one for eachdoor).

16.When the engine is operating in forward thrust, the cold stream final nozzle is'open' because the cascade vanes are internally covered by the blocker doors(flaps) and externally by the movable (translating) cowl; the latter item alsoserves to reduce drag.

23.The cold stream thrust reverser casing (fig. 15-7) is fitted between the lowpressure compressor casing and the cold stream final nozzle. Cascade vane assembliesare arranged in segments around the circumference of the thrust reversercasing. Blocker doors are internally mounted and are connected by linkages tothe external movable (translating) cowl, which is mounted on rollers andtracks. Because the thrust reverser is not subjected to high temperatures, thecasing, blocker doors and cowl are constructed mainly of aluminium alloys orcomposite materials. The cowl is double-skinned, with the space between theskins containing noise absorbent material (Part 19).
