Part I. Listening one:Problem neighbours
Jenny I am fed up with the Parkers. I don’t want to live next to them any more.
Mike What? Are you suggesting we move?
Jenny Yes, I am. Yesterday the postman gave Mrs Parker our post and she read the postcard Betty had sent to me. Then she told me what Betty had written.
Mike Haveyou spoken to Mrs Parker about the problem?
Jenny No, I did not want to make trouble.
Mike Well, let’s invite them for coffee and talk about the problem.
Jenny OK. That is an idea. I suppose it is less trouble than moving house.
Mike Fine, I’ll phone them now.
Part 2 Viewing Jammed again
Stella This is the third time this week. Every time I want to use the photocopier there is either a paper jam or no paper or no ink.
MrLessing But we decided at the meeting last Monday something had to be done.
Maggie Yes, we did. I wrote the minutes.
Stella I wasn’t there.What did we decide?
Maggie We decided that if you use the photocopier, you have to leave enough paper for the next person.
MrLessing And if there is a paper jam, the person has to either fix it or call the technician.
Stella Well, that was a really successful decision, but why is it always me who has no paper or a paper jam?
Mr Lessing Maggie, can you write a big notice asking people to leave the photocopier the way they want to find it,please?
Maggie Sure, Mr Lessing.
Stella Can you fix the problem, Mr Lessing?
MrLessing I’m not sure, but I’ll try.
Maggie Is it OK, Mr Lessing?
MrLessing Perfect.
Maggie Thank you.
Stella Well, let’s see if that works.
Part 3 Listening Two:The help line
Helpline Keno Coffee help line. How can I help you?
Wayne I have a problem with my coffee machine.
Helpline Can you describe the problem?
Wayne Yes, every time I press the button for coffee, I just get hot milk.
Helpline I see. Have you tried restarting the machine?
Wayne Yes, I have.
Helpline Could you unplug the machine, please?
Wayne OK, I have unplugged it. And now?
Helpline Right. Now plug it in again and press the button for coffee.
Wayne I’ve done that and still get hot milk.
Helpline I’m sorry, sir. There seems to be a real problem with your machine.
Wayne That is what I keep telling you!
Help line Right, well I will inform the dispatch department and we will collect it within the next three days. Is that OK?
Wayne OK.
