Task 2

Mary: Helen, I want to move into the dorms.
Helen: What’s wrong, Mary? You don’t want to live with me anymore?
Mary: That’s not the reason why I want to move. Next semester, my credit load is going to increase and the campus is a little bit far from here.
Helen: Well, who will be your new roommate?
Mary: Lily. Her roommate graduates and is going to move out next week.
Helen: She’s easy-going and always does the best in exams. Good luck!
Mary: I’ll come over to see you once in a while.
Helen: It’s so nice of you.

Task 2

Jane: Prof. Tan, what is college dorm life like?
Prof. Tan: Dorm life at college can be cheerful, and itcan be annoying. Most of the time, though, it’s somewhere in between.
Jane: Do you remember your college dorm days?
Prof. Tan: Yes. You know, Jane,we had all-night sessions about everything from childhood fears to our ideal jobs, getting to know people, and the dances, football games, spring days, and ...
Jane: I’ve got the picture. Dorms are sort of a boot camp for young freshmen, aren’t they?
Prof. Tan: Yes. Sure, you can get stuck with a roommate whom you dislike. Colleges and universities have ways to fix such problems.
Jane: Dorm life is about patience, compromise, and giving. Dorm room is a combination of library, recreation room, bedroom, and haven. It is truly an all-purpose room.
Prof. Tan: You’re right. So, get ready to live in the dorms.

Almost every college student experiences life in the residence halls at least once. Whether you’re an incoming freshman who is required to live in the dorms or atransfer student who wishes to live in the upper classmen dorms, the experience is widely shared. I spent my first year in college in a residence hall and it was a wonderful experience. You had friends all around you, you could find a meal just downstairs, and you only had to clean one room and a bathroom instead of an entire house.
Of course, there are some downsides to the dorms, such as the lack of a proper kitchen or the thin walls. However, one of the greatest downsides to my time in the dorms wasn’t the inconveniences, but rather, a hall mate.
I will call her Loca because I feel like that is the word that describes her best: crazy. Loca lived in the first room on the right of the hallway so no matter what you did, youwould always have to pass her room when you went to your room or left it.
Loca began the school year with a roommate who was a really sweet girl. Loca did not like the company of others and by the third week of these mester, her roommate had packed up and moved back home. I never heard the true story but the poor girl left in tears.
