录音原文

In Washington, DC, only 69 percent of public school students graduate from high school on time. Many reasons explain that low rate. One important one is whether the people around the students expect them to succeed. For the past 40 years, a DC organization has stepped in to give around 10,000 students the support and environment they need to develop.

This organization, called Higher Achievement, provides students with a welcoming space, help with classwork and caring teachers. More than 95 percent of students who complete Higher Achievement graduate from high school on time. An important reason for the group's success is timing. Higher Achievement does not work with students who are already in high school. It works with students at fifth or sixth grade aging 11 or 12. Research shows that if students are. doing well in eighth grade, they w-ill have a greater chance of graduating from high school and going to college.

D) Translation requests.

录音原文
Some machines can take something written in one language and give users the same or similar wording in another language. These machines are designed to do this kind of work  quickly and without mistakes. The quality of translation software programs has greatly improved in recent years. This has led many people to start using machine translators. One   of the most widely used translation devices is Google Translate. Google says the service completes billions of translation requests, involving 103 languages, each year. Google had earlier used a system that translated on phrase-by-phrase level. This system created speech that could usually be understood, but didn't sound natural. Recently, Google announced a new system known as neural machine translation, taking entire sentences and modeling sentence outputs (输出) . it produces translations that sound more like real human language.

录音原文
M: Well, what I wanted to ask really was _ you're a teacher, been teaching for some years now, erm, what would you say, how would you describe a good student or bad student, you know, sort of things they do or don't do in the classroom?
W:Erm, well, a good student is usually one who's not afraid to make mistakes, I'd say.
M: Uh huh.
W: And he's, er, eager to experiment with every new thing that he learns, a new word, a structure; he immediately starts trying to use it.
M: Yeah, all right.
W: And he's interested in the mistakes he makes; he's not afraid to make them.
M: So he's not simply interested in having it corrected and moving on?
W: No, no, no. He, he plays with the language. A bad student, on the other hand, will perhaps say "OK. I've done this chapter. I know this." without trying to experiment at all, without really testing himself.
M: Ahha, ahha.
W: He's usually passive. He won't speak up much in the classroom. He'll very rarely ask you why this and why not something else。
M: Just sort of accepts what you give him and doesn't do anything more with it.
W: And peep over at the er ._ at his neighbor's paper.
M: Oh yes, an alternative learning strategy.
W: Right, and he invariably decides that the other person is more likely to be right than himself.
M: Mm, right, yeah. Er, anything else?
W: Er, mm, the good learner is, well, I think he won't rely entirely on the teacher. And he'll read books.
M: Mm, so work outside the classroom as well as in it.
W: Yeah, yeah. Students who make most progress are first of all those who experiment and secondly those who read books.

录音原文

W: Good morning. Have a seat.

M: Good morning. Thank you.

W: I have your application here somewhere. Yes, here it is. Your name is Robert Martin, right?

M:That's right, madam.

W: And you hope to enter our university next fall?

M:Yes, madam, if I can make it.

W: Fine, Bob. I notice that you finished high school a year ago. Why didn't you enter college that year?

M: Well, I have a sister in college now. And there's another one who'Il be going next year. So I had to earn a little money to help pay my way.

W: Good. It sounds as if you're a pretty responsible fellow. I see that you attended two grade schools.

M: Yes, madam. My first six years I went to a public school in my hometown. Then I went to a military school for two years.

W: And came back to your hometown for high school.

M: That's right, madam.

W: I see. How were your grades?

M: Well, pretty good, until my second year in high school. Then I guess I got a little too interested in sports. But I know I'II work hard in college.

W: What do you want to major in?

M: I want to major in biology. That was my best subject in high school. I'm really interested in it.

W: That sounds fine. Have you discussed this with your teachers and your parents?

M: Oh, sure. My science teacher thinks that's just what I ought to go into. And my parents say I should make my own choice.

W: Well, you should get along all right here. But it's hard to keep up with both sports and studies.

M: Yes, madam, I know.

W: Fine. Well, good luck, Bob.

M: Thank you, madam. Good-bye.

Early that morning, Anna awoke to the sound of a tapping on her window and surprisingly found Peter was standing there with a picnic basket. Peter told Anna that it was his last day at the beach and he wanted to spend the entire day with her. It was a beautiful day. They enjoyed the enchanting(迷人的) sunrise and a romantic breakfast. They swam in the crystal clear water. They talked hours, not knowing where all the time had gone.

录音原文

Suppose you have everything: a good job, good health, good reputation, good relationships and lots of money to spend. But still there is something missing from your life. Guess what?

The LOVE. It is not something which you should ignore. Life without love is just like body without soul.

Love gives meaning to life as without love life is meaningless. Lucky is the person who gets love and keeps the flames of love burning forever. It is not a matter of days or months. Love is for life and life is for love.

It is easy to fall in love but difficult to keep the flames of love burning. Before indulging in serious long-term love relationships, be sure that the person you love is also sincere with you.

A selfish person can make your life miserable.

Most people do not give importance to their love life as they give importance to their professional life. In most cases, people sacrifice their love life for their profession. This is a bad choice which ruins the whole life. A sensible balance between the two is necessary in order to enjoy life in its entirety.

In order to make the journey of life more exciting and enjoyable, you need a loving and caring person with whom you can share your values, dreams, fantasies(幻想),joys and joke.

In difficult times of anxiety, sorrow, or distress, this person should stand firm beside you and comfort you in every possible manner.
