The urban area of Haiyang, Shandong province, has started using heat generated by a nuclear power plant this winter, making it the first Chinese city to have carbon-free heating, State Power Investment Corp said.

The State Council, the country's Cabinet, has recently unveiled a plan to build a new type of power system featuring a gradual increase in the proportion of new energy sources and promoting the large-scale optimization of clean power resources.

New grid channels shall include at least 50 percent of renewable energy and the government will also strictly control the proportion of coal in interprovincial power delivery.

As China's first commercial nuclear heating project, it provides clean energy to more than 200,000 residents of Haiyang, a coastal city under the jurisdiction of Yantai. The new heating was put into operation on Tuesday, six days ahead of the scheduled start of the four-month winter heating period, due to recent cold weather.

Xue Jianlei, 37, said the clean heating is keeping his family warm and contributing to a healthier environment. "The floor got warm and the temperature in our home on Tuesday reached 22 C to 23 C," he said.

As power generation using renewable energy requires the grid network to be steadier and quicker in response due to the volatility and unpredictability of new energy, it is necessary to build a new power system with new energy as a principal component to help the government achieve its carbon peak and neutrality ambitions.

It is hard to imagine that a man so accustomed to the digital mobile on-line chatting can be capable of the practical communication with others. Finally, too much dependent on the digital things, human seem to be more indifferent to the real world, which we, though reluctant to admit, have to accept.
