Tourism in the United States is a large industry,serving millions of international and domestic tourists annually. Tourist could travel and appreciate natural wonders, cities, historic landmarks and entertainment spots around the country. 

    Tourism in the US grew rapidly in the form ofurban tourism during the late 19th and early 20th century. Major cities, likeNew York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and San Francisco, attracted a large number of tourists at that time. The invention of automobile changed the way of travelling. Similarly air travel revolutionized travel during the mid-20thcentury, contributing greatly to tourism in the US. Today, there exists a widerange of tourist attractions in the US such as amusement parks, gambling,historical buildings and landmarks, and outdoor recreations. Most of these attractions brought great fortune and benefits to the local states. Take Disney World’s Magic Kingdom for example. Located in Florida, Orlando, it’s the most visited theme park in the world. It makes Florida the most visited statein the US, and one of the most visited destination in the world. 

    Besides urban tourism, the US is also rich in National parks and natural landscapes. Congress laid the foundation of the National Park System in 1872 when it established Yellowstone National Park, which is located primarily in Wyoming. The system now comprises about 380 areas of scenic, historic, or scientific interest, totaling more than 84 millionacres. Most national parks have a full range of facilities and offer a variety of outdoor activities.

    In 1966, the program of National Historic Landmarks was established. NHLs refer to buildings, districts, objects, orsites that are officially recognized by the US government for their outstanding historical significance. Up to now, there are more than 2,500 registered landmarked by the government.
