Remembrance/Veterans Day
The Remembrance Day in Britain and the Veterans Day in the US bothfall on November 11th. This day originated from Armistice day, which marked the end of the First World War.
In Britain, it commemorates those who died in the two World Wars andof more recent conflicts. On and before this day, money is collected in thestreet on behalf of charities for ex-servicemen(退役军人).The people who donate money are given paper poppies(红罂粟花)to pin to their clothes.
In the United States, this day is called “Veterans Day”, because veterans of other wars could also be honored, not just soldiers from World War I. In many cities and towns, there are parades and speeches to remind people ofthe sacrifices soldiers have made. Often, flowers are laid at the graveside ofdead soldiers.
