Unit 6 Holidays and celebritions

能力目标

  • To practise searching for specific information by skimming a passage about the classification of holidays around the world. 

  • To identify the similarities and differences between Western and Chinese holidays.

  • To practise reading and listening for specific information.

  • To practise classifying cultural phenomena.

  • To practise taking notes when listening to a short, informal presentation. 

  • To practise identifying general themes and extracting specific information about cultural behaviour in the US by reading texts from magazines, web pages and portfolios etc.

  • To practise identifying specific information in the topic area by listening to short factual talks.

  • To practise scanning and jig-saw reading of factual texts in the topic area.

  • To reflect on the similarities and differences between Chinese and Western wedding traditions.

  • To review key vocabulary, collocation and pay attention to the different patterns associated with different parts of speech.

  • To explore the following features of written English: (1) ellipsis of verb forms; (2)descriptive use of comparative forms
