Keeping a conversation going

1A  You've only just met and you don't' know much about your client's company.

1B  You've only just met. Tell your potential client about your company: young/dynamic/looking for new markets/ moving into new premises, etc.

2A  You don't know what your colleague really does.

2B  Tell your colleague about your role: head of design/ department of twelve people/ working on new government project/ looking for new methods of operating, etc.

3A  You don't know about the latest developments in your client's company.

3B   Tell your supplier about exciting new developments in your company: full order book/ expanding into new martets/ looking for larger premises /taking on new staff/ getting losts of interests in new products, etc.

4A   You have just met a colleague from another branch who you will be working with on a project. OUtline the project and ask him/her for his/her ideas. Talk about: future meetings, deadlines, how you'll exchange ideas, etc.

4B   You have just meta colleague from another branch who you will be working with on a project. Listen as he/she outlines the project. Ask for more details and add your own ideas.

5A   Ask your partner what he/she thinks about the business situation and future prospects.

5B   Tell your partner about the present business istuation and future outlook:has been sluggish/ picking up/ rise in orders/ interest from new markets/ interest rates stable/ world situation uncertain, etc.
