Unit 8 CommunicationStyle (交际风格)

 

This unit consists of 3 sections, with the following unit learning objectives and tasks:

 

Learning Objectives

- Master the definition and classification of context, as well as its impact on communication styles.

- Understand the differences in communication styles among people from different cultural backgrounds.

- Grasp the characteristics of high-context and low-context communication, along with the traits of high-context and low-context cultures.

- Cultivate and enhance the ability to use appropriate communication styles for intercultural communication.

- Strengthen intercultural awareness and improve the ability to spread Chinese culture and tell Chinese stories in English.

 

Aftercompleting this unit, you should be able to:

ü  Understand what context is, types of context, itsinfluence to communication,

ü  Illustrate differences between high-contextcommunication and low-context communication,

ü  Illustrate differences between high-context culture andlow-context culture,

ü  Explore characteristics of explicit and implicitcommunicative style,

ü  Apply effective and appropriate communicative stylein intercultural communication,

ü  Enhance intercultural awareness, improve the ability touse English to spread Chinese culture and tell Chinese stories.
