1. appeal:
v. (to sb) to attract or interest sb 有吸引力;有感染力;引起兴趣
e.g.The design has to appeal to all ages and social groups.

2. concession:
n. sth that you allow or do, or allow sb to have, in order to end an argument or to make a situation less difficult 让步,妥协
e.g.The firm will be forced to make concessions if it wants to avoid a strike.

Sentence Analysis
1. After all, it was Abe Lincoln who set aside the first parcel of what would later become Yosemite National Park. (Para 1)
Note: 这是个强调句。强调句的构成是:it+动词be+被强调部分+who(m)或that+其他部分。该句中强调的是主语Abe Lincoln,指人,因此连接词用who。
2. The lumberjacks were so furious that they marched into the city to protest, shouting “No more parks!” (Para 2)
Note 1: 结构so…that, 意思是“如此…以至于…”,so后面接形容词。如果是名词,则要用such, 注意冠词的使用和名词的单复数。
Note 2: shouting “No more parks!”是现在分词短语做伴随状语。在不少情况下,现在分词(短语)可表示一个同时发生的次要的(或者说伴随的)动作,这时常有一个逗号把它和句子的主要部分分开,分词短语可放在句首,也可放在后部,间或插在中间。
E.g. Taking a key out of his pocket, he opened the door.
他从口袋里掏出钥匙开了门。
