Conversation 1
Chinatown refers to an area in a city in many different countries where there is a large number of Chinese residents and a centre of many Chinese restaurants, shops, businesses and cultural activities.
Chinatown in London is near Leicester Square (Gerrard Street) in the West End. Unlike some other Chinatowns, not many Chinese people actually live there.
Cantonesefood is more familiar to many Westerners than other kinds of Chinese food because many people from Hong Kong and Guangdong came to Britain, for example, and set up restaurants and takeaways.

The East End is east of the medieval city of London and north of the River Thames. Historically it was a poorer part of London butsince the 1980s much of the area has been regenerated.
Christ Church, Spitalfields
A laundry is a business for washing, drying and ironing clothes. Some Chinese in Britain, America and elsewhere ran laundries in the past but this is not likely now as many families have washing machines at home.
A Gateway （入口；门） is an entrance that is opened and closed with a gate; the gateway to Chinatown (门楼、牌坊) is a symbol of Chinese culture.
To wind something up means "to bring something to a conclusion"; "to finish it".
Dimsum is a Chinese dish or meal from Guangdong which consists of small pieces of food wrapped in sheets of dough and is steamed.
Crispy is the feel of food that is firm in a pleasant way, and you make a noise when you bite it. Crispy roast duck is cooked so that the skin is crispy.
Starving is literally ill or dying because of a lack of food; informally (as here) very hungry.
