3-2    Wine Orders

Scene: As soon as the Bellows have ordered the food, the waiter (W) approaches them.

W:   Mr Bellow, would you like some wine for your meal? We have a good selection of classified

      Bordeaux Wines and Californian Wine. They are specially imported by our hotel.

Mr Bellow (B): We'd like to take some wine with the dinner.

W:   Here is the Wine List, Mr Bellow. Please take your time.

      (After a few minutes the waiter comes back to the table.)

W:   Mr Bellow, may I take your wine order?

B:    There are so many wines here. We really don't know which one to take.

W:   What about a bottle of Chateau Haut Lafite? It is very good. Many guests give high comments on it.

B:    Fine, a bottle of this wine then.

      (The waiter takes the order.)

W:   (Presenting the bottle to the guests) A bottle of Chateau Haut Lafite.

W:   Mr and Mrs Bellow, this is the bottle of Chateau Haut Lafite 1964.

B:    Aha, it looks quite all right.

W:   When would you like the wine to be served, with the main dish or with the first course?

B:    Open it now, please.

      (The waiter opens the bottle by cutting the foil, cleans the bottle top with a napkin, inserts the

      cork screw and draws the cork slowly and carefully without shaking the bottle, then cleans the      

      mouth of the bottle with a napkin.)

W:   (Pouring a bit of wine into the guest's glass)

      Mr Bellow, would you please taste the wine?

B:    (Tasting) Excellent! Thank you for your recommendation.
