3-1 Helping to Order Dishes
Scene: Mr Bellow (B) is looking atthe menu which has been handed to him by a waiter (w) as soon as he sits down.A few minutes later the waiter comes over to him.
W: Good evening, sir. Areyou ready to order?
B: Yes, I am.
W: Yes, sir. We have a verynice vegetable today, "broccoli with crabmeat sauce". It's our chef's
recommendation. Thebroccoli is local, so it's a little bit different from yours. It's deliciousand
worth a try.
B: OK, I'll take it. I knowlittle about Chinese food. What do you mean by "Luo Han Zhai"?
W: It's a typical Cantonesefood. In English it means mixed vegetables. But I'm afraid we have no
more of that dish.
B: Hm, let's see.
W: What about "steamedred garoupa"?
B: That's a good idea.
W: Sir, your fish will take15 minutes to prepare. While waiting, may I suggest you have
something to drink?
B: OK. I'll have whisky.
W: Thank you.
