2-2 Receiving the Diners

Scene: As soon as Mr. Bellow (B) and Mrs. Bellow(M) enter the restaurant, one captain(C) greets

       them.

C: Excuse me, sir and madam. I’ll be with you in a minute.

(He is taking the order forsome other guests. When he finishes it, he immediately comes to the Bellows.)

C: Good evening, sir and madam.

B&M: Good evening.

C: Are you staying at our hotel?

B: Yes, We’re in Room 908.

C: Mr.….?

B: Bellow.

C: Thank you very much, Mr. Bellow. I’m sorry to say we don’t have avacant seat at the moment.

   Would you please have aseat in the waiting room for about five minutes? One table over there is

   almost ready. I’ll call youthen.

B: OK. Thank you.

(The captain leads them tothe waiting-room.)

(Five minutes later)

C: Mr. and Mrs. Bellow. Sorry to have kept you waiting.

  Now we have a table for you.Would you please come this way?

(Once in the dining-hallagain, Mr. Bellow catches sight of a table near the windows.)

B: Can we sit here, waiter?

M: (Cuts in) Oh, Henry,that table must have been reserved. Look, there is a sign on it.

C: Yes, you are right, Mrs. Bellow. If you want that one tomorrow,I’ll have it reserved for you. Will

   you please try this tableat present?

(Pulling the chair out, hehelps Mrs. Bellow to take the seat.)

B: OK. Thank you.

C: Have you anything in mind as to what wine you are going to havetonight, or may I make a

   suggestion?

B: I’ll have whisky.

C: Pardon?

B: Whisky, please.

C: Perhaps you will change your mind and have very good Martini?

B: That’s a good idea.
