2-1  A Reservation Call

Scene: Mr. Bellow (B) is reserving a table on thetelephone.

Captain(C): Good morning. The “Spring House”. Lin Rong speaking. MayI help you?

B: What time do you open this evening?

C: We open at 7:30, sir, and we take last orders at 10:30.

B: Good. I’d like to reserve a table for two.

C: Yes, sir. What time would you like your table, sir?

B: I am not sure…perhaps around 8:00.

C: Fine. I’ll reserve a table for two at 8:00, sir. May I have yourname, please?

B: Bellow. Henry Bellow.

C: Thank you, Mr. Bellow.

B: Oh, is there any chance of a table by the window? My wife lovesthe Shanghai harbour view. One    more thing, as it is herbirthday, I want it to be a celebration.

C: I see. We have already received many bookings and though I cannotguarantee anything, please be  assured that we’ll try ourbest, Mr. Bellow. I hope you’ll understand.

B: I do, but I would appreciate it if it could be arranged.

C: I’ll try best. We look forward to having you with us tonight, Mr.Bellow. Thank you for calling us.

B: Good-bye.

C: Good-bye, and have a good day!
