【Introduction】

 As a room attendant, one of the most important tasks is to make up the guest room and offer other services for the guests who are staying at our hotel. This class we will learn the chamber services.

10-1   Making up the Room

  Scene: The room attendant(RA) with a trolley meets the Bellows in the corridor.

RA: Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Bellow. May I come through, please?

Mrs. Bellow(M): Good morning. It is almost 11 o′clock, and our room hasn’tbeen made up yet. 

RA: I am so sorry, madam. I was just coming along to your room. I will be there as soon as I finish this one.

M: Really? Could you do our room first next time? We always seem to be the last.

RA: Well, I have a section of fourteen rooms, and I always do the check-out room firstunless there is a request. 

Mr. Bellow (B): Check-out rooms? What are they? Do you mean that the people who go out early get their rooms done first? If that is so, we were out at 7:30 this morning.

RA: A check out room means a room which is being vacated at the end of a guest′s stay. We have to get the room ready for sale again by the Front Office. 

B: Well, we would like to take a nap after lunch.

RA: Yes, I see. Your room will be ready in half an hour, Mr. and Mrs. Bellow.

M: Can you do this for us every day?

RA: Certainly, Mrs. Bellow. We always try to have rooms made up early on request. And if you need any help, please do let us know.

                                                     10-2  Cleaning the Room

    Scene: The room attendant(RA) comes to clean the guestroom. He knocks at the door first.

RA: Housekeeping. May I come in?

Guest(G): Yes, please.

RA: Good morning, sir. May I clean your room now?

G: No, not now. Thanks. I am not feeling very well now. I have caught a cold.

RA: Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. May I escort you to our hotel’s clinic or get you a doctor?

G: Not necessary. But can you get me some APC pills?

RA: I’m afraid I can’t. it’s against our hotel’sregulations, you see. You might try to drink as much boiled water as possible.

G: Really. Would you switch on the mini-jar to make me some boiled water?

RA: Certainly, sir. May I replace the bathroom towels and other toilet needs?

G: That is very nice of you.

RA: Anything else I can do for you, sir?

G: No, thanks. I just want to take a bath and then have a good rest.

RA: Let me press the “Do Not Disturb” button for you. When you want me to make up your room, please turn off the “DND” sign or dial 8 to the floor service desk. I will be back to your service right away.

  G: So kind! Thank you very much.
