Introduction

From this lesson, we will learn the contents of the Housekeeping Department. After the bellman shows the guests to the elevator, the room attendant meets the guests in the corridor.

9-1    Recognizing the Guests

Scene:The Bellows leave the elevator. The room attendant(RA) steps forward to welcome them.

RA: Good afternoon, sir and madam. Welcome to the ninth floor. How may I help you?

Mr. Bellow(B): Good afternoon.Where is Room 908, please?

RA: Ah, Mr. and Mrs. Bellow. Would you care to step this way, please? It is along here.

Mrs. Bellow(M) : Oh, how do you know our name?

RA: It was on the arrival list for Room 908. Here we are. May I have your key, please? Let me open the door for you.

B: Here it is.

RA: ( The room attendant knocks at the door first, opens it, and precedes the guestsinto the roomand turns on the light.)    This way, please.

B: Thank you. When will our baggage arrive?

RA: Your suitcases will be here shortly. The bellman is handling them.

B: Very good.

(Looking around the room.)

RA: How do you like the room?

M: Oh, it looks comfortable and cozy. We like it very much.

RA: (Drawing the curtains aside)

The room is facing south and commands a good view of theHuangpuRiver.

M: Yes, how lovely it is!

RA: (Handing the room key to Mr. Bellow)

Here is your key, Mr. Bellow.

9-2    About the Room Facilities

Scene: The room attendant(RA) is showing the Bellows the amenities in the room.

RA: Mr. and Mrs. Bellow, here is the light switch, thetemperature adjuster, the wardrobe and the mini-bar. Besides, there is a safe in the wardrobe. Here is our hotel′s Service Information Booklet. It gives you an idea about our services and facilities.

Mrs. Bellow(M): Wonderful! Thank you. Where is the access tothe internet?

RA: It is over there. The panel on the night stand controls the different devices in the room. That door leads to the bathroom. The hot water supply is round the clock. And there are two sockets in the bathroom, for 110V and 220V respectively. The voltage here is much higher than that in the States.

Mr. Bellow(B): Oh, I can use my electric shaver. And I feel like taking a bath tofreshen up after the transocean flight.

RA: Is there anything I can do before I leave the room?

M: You have made us feel very welcomed. By the way, is the tap water drinkable?

RA: Oh, Mr. and Mrs. Bellow , please don’t drink the tap water. Here are some bottles of mineral water, free of charge. And you may use the minijar to make yourself some hot boiled water.

(The room attendant shows how to use it.)

If you need anything, please dial 8 or press the button over there.

B: Thank you very much.

FA: You are always welcome. I hope you will enjoy your stay with us.

Conclusion

After the guests check in at the Front Office, they will come to our Housekeeping Department. Then the staff should do service for the guests. From these two dialogues, I want you know how to guide the guests to their room and introduce the room facilities to the guests.
