At the Cashier (Ⅰ)

【Introduction】

The cashier is a very important section of the Front Office. As a cashier, you need to provide the foreign currency exchange service for the guests, check the guests out and so on. This class we will learn some dialogues about the cashier's job.

【New Lessons】

6-1   Foreign Currency Exchange    

                                                                           兑换外币

Scene: Mr. Bellow ( B) is at the foreign exchange counter. He Wants to exchange some US dollars for        RMB.

Cashier(C): Good afternoon, sir. May I help you?

B: I’d like to exchange some money for RMB, please. 

C: What kind of foreign currency have you got, sir?

B: US dollars.

C: According to today′s exchange rate, every 100US dollars in cash is equivalent to 598 yuan RMB.            How much would you like to change, sir?

    B: Well, I will change one hundred and here is the money.

    C: Would you please fill in this form and show me your passport?

    B: All right.

    C: Please write your name, passport number and room number on this slip.

    B: Here you are.

    C: Thank you.You will have it right away.

    B: OK. Will you please give me some one-yuan RMB notes? I need some small change.

    C: All right.

     (Changing the money.)

    Mr. Bellow, here it is. Please have a check and keep the exchange memo.

B: Oh, yes, thanks. By the way, can you tell me what I should do with the RMB left with me?

    C: You will have to go to the Bank of China or the airport exchange office to change it back  into       

      dollars by showing the form.

    B: I see. Thanks.

    C: You are welcome.

6-2   Checking Guest’s  Account     

                                                                       核查客人账目

Scene:Mr.Bellow(B) steps to the cashier’s counter. The cashier (C) greets him with a smile.

C: Goood morning, sir. May I help you?

B: I’d like to check my account. My name is Henry Bellow.

C: Well, Mr.Bellow, May I have your room number, Please?

B: Room 908.

C: Thank you, Mr.Bellow. Please wait a moment… Here is a copy of your account.

B: There is a mistake here. I bought something in the hotel’s gift shop yesterday. I do remember I paid in cash. I thought the computer should never make a mistake.

C: But the person entering the charge might. I will make a note of the error for the night auditor.

B: Night auditor? Why?

C: He checks the accuracy of the guests’ posting during the night. The night auditor is responsible for monitoring the status of promotional programs such as this.

B: All right. I will check back with you tomorrow.
