
Upon completion of this unit, teachers are expected to have enabled students to:
1. have a thorough understanding of the text contextually and linguistically;
2. build up your vocabulary about how the experience of overseas study may differ from that in China, and know how to use the key words and expressions in context properly;
3. understand the criteria used by admissions officers and those used by students when they select foreign institutions of higher education to apply to;
4. discuss the pros and cons of studying abroad;
5. get familiar with the writing of an application letter;
6. find out what the author saw and heard while studying at Yale University in the United States, broaden their horizons, kindle their desire to understand the world and arouse their interest in overseas education;
7. figure out the reason for Zhao Yilu’s success, realize that studying abroad is not the only way to become talented, and if they go abroad, they should follow Qian Xuesen as an example: return to serve the motherland after graduation.
