      The 120km-long Beijing-Tianjin passenger  railway is the first intercity railway in the mainland. The railway  began operations on August 1,2008, a week before Beijing Olympic Games.The high-speed railway is the first of its kind in the mainland and cuts travel time between the two major cities of North China by half to only 30 minutes.
