Social responsibility is the responsibility that each member of the society should take on to ensure a world running in order. Human beings can never survive in isolation. As John Donne put it, no one is an island. Thus, social responsibility is of predominant importance for both individuals and the society.

For one thing, social responsibility best serves individual interests. Only when everyone learns to observe the social norm and behave himself, can a harmonious social order be maintained, where personal freedoms and rights can be best exercised. For another, social responsibility is the key to universal peace and development. If every country concerned only about itself, or performed at the cost of others, the whole world would definitely be in a chaos. Only with social responsibility, may such problems as global warming, poverty, pandemics or even wars be solved and prosperity be reached someday. As Churchill said, “The price of greatness is responsibility”.

In conclusion, social responsibility is the fundamental responsibility of individuals, enterprises, as well as countries. Therefore, whenever you want to do something selfish, think about the consequences your behavior may bring to the society, and think twice.
