Talk About Public Art

For Your Information: Public Art

The term public art is used to refer to any art that is exhibited in a public space, whether outdoors or in public buildings.

Public art has a long history. The first examples were statues of kings and rulers in the ancient times, and religious sculptures that were found throughout the ancient world. Today, sculpture is still the most common form of public art, because it can be made of materials that are durable and easy to clean.

Murals are very popular, but as the listening material points out, they can be difficult to maintain.

A third common form of public art is temporary installations, such as the Bulgarian artist Christo’s fabric gates that were put up in Central Park in New York City.
