Walt Disney and Steve Jobs' Connection
、Once upon a time, there were two men connected together by a little thing named technology—Walt Disney and Steve Jobs. Disney was a pioneer in the field of animation that built an empire of colorful cartoon characters and magical amusement parks. Jobs was an inventor of huge technological advances such as the computer and digital hardware. Jobs was just eleven years old when Disney died of lung cancer, but forty years later their two worlds collided.
、Let’s start in 1986, when Jobs purchased the computer graphics division of Lucas Film Inc. and renamed it Pixar Animation Studios. In the beginning, Pixar earned its funds by creating short computer- animated cartoons and then it began to produce commercials for major companies in 1989. After several successful small films the magic happened. Pixar produced the mega-hit Toy Story in 1995. It was the world’s first fully computer animated feature-length film. After this incredible success, Pixar released A Bug’s Life, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles. Six years later, in January 2006, Jobs sold Pixar to The Walt Disney Company for $4.7 billion. This transaction made Jobs the single largest shareholder of Disney stock.
、Try to imagine a world without Walt Disney. Walt Disney transformed the entertainment industry into what we know today through magic, whimsy, and optimism. Disney pioneered the fields of animation and found new ways to teach through his views and visions. He was optimistic for the future and persistent in making life more enjoyable and fun. Walt Disney possessed one of the most unique imaginations the world has ever known.
、So now, try to imagine a world without Steve Jobs. Without him, an apple would just be a fruit that we eat, a mouse would be a little animal that we hate, and a touch would be just that, a touch, and an iPad would just be a pad for your eye. We would still be carrying around Walkmans with a heavy backpack full of tapes instead of a little device that can hold up to 40,000 songs. ITunes saved us from the risks of stealing songs from online sources and Woody the Cowboy would never have met Mickey the Mouse.
、Steve Jobs and Walt Disney were both influential leaders and were trusted for their vision, proven record, and intellect. Both men were pleasant, but never put up with nonsense from those around them. The Disney and Apple companies were both focused corporations because neither was too widely spread. Disney could have put a Disneyland in every state, but he knew it was wise to limit the locations. Jobs also was known to simplify his product. He knew Apple could make hundreds of gadgets, but Jobs thought it was wise to seek perfection in a few core products. Neither of these visionaries was driven by money alone. Their goods are all high quality, because both men held back from releasing the products until they were just right. Disney and Jobs knew that if something was done right, people would pay and money would not be a problem.
