It's easy to think that one little bribe won't have any ___1___ on how government employees do their jobs, but let us show you what really happens.
Let's say you're cruising along Edson and an officer suddenly flags you down and tells you you've been swerving, what do you do? Instead of ____2___ the proper process, you just hand them a bit of money to let your offense slide. It's more convenient than trying to get your license back, the officer might say. And then you go on your merry way and ___ 3___ like the whole incident never happened.
Easy right? Wrong! The officer takes a bribe and gets away with it, so he does it again and again and again. The ___4___ grows, and before you know it he'll ___5___ this power by flagging down just about anyone just to be able to gain an extra couple of hundred pesos(菲律宾比索).
You're basically making him rich for being bad at his job and, in turn, you're keeping him from giving the decent service you deserve. Now multiply that by the number of corrupt officials in every sector of the government, and you've got a whole system that's not only ___6___ but greedy enough to take your hard-earned money every chance they can get.
It's a ___7___ thought, huh? So what should you do?
For starters, know the law, know your rights, know what's in the citizens charter (宪章) and know when you're being bullied into an ___8___ practice. Refuse to give in to bribery for the promise of ___9___, because we promise you that, in the long run, you're just feeding a system of corruption that keeps us from receiving the services we all deserve from the government. We need to keep our governmentin check we must hold them to a higher ___10___, we must assert our right to receive decent services from the offices that receive our tax money. After all, why should we pay extra for services that we already paid for? The chain of corruption can end with you. Stop bribery, sign the pledge at www.bantay.ph.
