Utopian is used to describe political or religious philosophies which claim that it is possible to build a new and perfect society in which everyone is happy. 乌托邦
If you describe a plan or idea as utopian, you are criticizing it because it is unrealistic and shows a belief that things can be improved much more than is possible.
Dystopia (dɪsˈtoʊpiə ) n. 反乌托邦
A dystopia is a fictional society, usually described as existing in a future time, when the conditions of life are extremely bad due to deprivation, oppression, or terror. Science fiction writers like to use this idea. Social critics, esp. postmodern social critics, also use the term "dystopia" to condemn trends in post-industrial society they see as negative. In most dystopian fiction, a corrupt government creates or sustains the poor quality of life, often conditioning the masses to believe the society is proper and just, even perfect. Most dystopian fiction takes place in the future but often purposely incorporates contemporary social trends taken to extremes. Dystopias are frequently written as warnings, or as satires, showing current trends leading to a nightmarish conclusion.
Stephen Leacock, who might be called a dystopian, had serious doubts about his opposites---the utopians, who tended to paint rosy pictures of the worlds future and believed that human wisdom could give us happy solutions to all our problems. He did not believe machines, industrialization, and scientific and technological developments can automatically lead us to a paradise on earth.
