进行时(Continuous Tense)

一、现在进行时 (Present Continuous Tense)

1. 构成:  am / is / are + 动词的现在分词

2. 功能:

(1) 表示说话时正在进行的动作或状态。如:

      a. It is raining outside.    

      b. The students are reading aloud.

(2) 表示现阶段正在进行的动作或发生的事。如:

      a. I am getting up at seven this week. 

      b. She is gaining weight. 

      c. My brother is learning English at college.

(3) 表示不断重复的动作,通常与always, usually, 

      constantly, continually, repeatedly等副词连用,而且常常带有褒贬等感情色彩。如:

     a. She is always helping the others. (褒义)

     b. He is constantly complaining that the job is too tiring. (贬义)

       以上两例句如不用进行时,便只是表示一种客观陈述,而不带有说话人的感情色彩。

(4) 表示渐进的过程,常用的动词包括get, become, turn, grow, forget, remember等。如:

      a. I am forgetting my English. 

 b. Winter is coming. The days are getting shorter  while the nights are getting longer.

     c. My hair is growing.

(5) 表示即将发生的动作或状态,常用的动词包括come,  go, leave, meet, start, stay等。如:

      a. We are leaving at ten.

      b. I am not staying with you.

      c. When are you starting?

      d. I’m meeting you after class.

(6) 表示婉转语气,只适用于want, wonder, hope等少数动词。如:    

   a. I am wondering if you can send me the book.

       b. What are you hoping for? 

二、过去进行时 (Past Continuous Tense)

1. 构成:was / were + 动词现在分词

2. 功能:

(1) 表示过去某时或某阶段正在进行的动作或状态。如:

      a. At this time last night I was watching TV.

      b. While her husband was reading the newspaper, 

          she was doing kitchen work. 

      c. We were talking about the movie when the teacher came in.

(2) 表示过去不断重复的动作,通常与forever, always, constantly, continually等词连用,表示某种感情色彩。如:

     a. She was always changing her mind.

     b. My mother was constantly praising him.

     c. He was always borrowing money and forgetting to pay it back.

     d. I was continually making mistakes. 

(3) 表示过去某时间即将要发生或按计划安排要发生的事  如:

      a. They were leaving for Shanghai the next day.

      b. He told her that he was coming soon.

(4) 表示婉转语气,适用于want, hope, wonder等词。如:

      a. I was wondering if you could bring me some flowers.

      b. I was hoping that you could help me.

(5) 表示逐渐的变化或发展。如:

      a. It was getting dark. 

      b. I was beginning to like her.
