International Trade Policies: This is a lengthy section with a significant amount of technical content. Each of the subtopics should be given ample time in lecture and working students through the examples is a good idea. The broad nature of the content here serves as a nice summary for the course as a whole, with graphical analysis of tariffs and quotas, along with the game theoretic treatment of strategic issues in international trade. Students should be reminded that their ability to understand this material has been greatly enhanced by the lessons they have learned through the entire course.
The section concludes with an important discussion on globalization and the potential downsides to trade liberalization. The authors do a good job of addressing some of the more common arguments against trade liberalization with citations of recent research. At the same time, it is important to acknowledge that many of the changes brought about by globalization are still very new, so further research is likely.
