Intellectual Property: The final section in this chapter introduces students to the role of government in defining and protecting intellectual property rights.  The authors discuss both patent policy and copyright protection.  The most important aspect to emphasize is that this kind of regulation attempts to strike an important balance between offering enough protection to those who create and innovate, while at the same time not creating excessive market power.  Most students will have thought of one position or the other depending on their own personal experiences.  Helping them see this as a delicate problem to solve is crucial.
