Disadvantages of Moving First: In contrast to the previous section with first-mover advantages, this section presents situations in which moving first might be a disadvantage. The hold-up problem is the focus here and discussing how this problem might arise is a good idea. In addition, at this point in the chapter, after many different examples, students should be getting the idea that the lessons learned here are more general than just the hold-up problem or entry deterrence. Nonetheless, it may be something that they miss in their eagerness to sort out the details of each model. Taking a few minutes towards the end of lecture to draw them back out to thinking about the big picture is a very good idea.
