Deriving Demand Curves: This is a very short section, but it serves as the punch line for the entire chapter. Taking the time to reconstruct Figure 4.12 (p.112) from scratch will show students that the demand curve is essentially a collection of ‘best bundles’ from the consumer’s problem. A reminder that these two diagrams are drawn in different spaces (i.e. which variables are included) will help drive home the point that the indifference map/optimal consumption point diagram and the demand curve diagram show the same information, just in different ways.
