1. George Orwell

Orwell’s Politicalpoint

  • Orwell was a keen critic of imperialism , fascism ,Stalinism, andcapitalism.

  • His works are concerned with the sociopolitical conditions of histime, notably with the problem of human freedom.

  • His work is marked by a profound consciousness of social injustice,an intense dislike of  totalitarianism(极权主义), and a passion for clarity in language.

 

Orwell’s Rules forwriters

 

n  Never use metaphor, simile, or other figure of speech which you areused to seeing in print.

n  Never use a long word where a short one will do.

n  If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out.  

n  Never use the passive voice where you can use the active.

n  Never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word, or a jargon word ifyou can think of an everyday English equivalent.

n  Orwell is best remembered today for two of his novels

2. Morocco

1.    Located in NorthAfrica, on the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean

2.    About 2000 B.C.settled by Berber tribes, then invaded by Arabs in the 7th century, bringingwith them Islam.

3.    In 1912, aFranco-Spanish agreement divided Morocco into 4 administrative zones---FrenchMorocco, Spanish protectorate  (保护国) , a southernprotectorate and an international zone .

4.    Gainedindependence in 1956 and became a constitutional monarchy (君主国) in 1957.   Morocco is a member of the United Nations,the League of Arab States, and the Organization of African Unity.

5.    People: mostMuslims; Most (70%) Moroccans are farmers, using camels, donkeys and mules topull plows, trying to grow their own food. In the South a few tribesmen stillwander from place to place in the desert.

7.    Arabic--- theofficial language, French and Spanish also spoken.

  1. 3. Marrakech/Marrakesh (马拉喀什 )

始建于公元1062年,中世纪时曾两度为摩洛哥王朝的首都。在柏柏尔语,意思是“上帝的故乡”; 阿拉伯语里,“马拉喀什”意为“红颜色的”,其原因是当年的城墙采用赭红色岩石砌成,迄今基本保存完好.

6.    Marrakech is notonly a fantastic city, it is also a symbol of the Morocco that once was, andwhich still survives here. The streets of the old and pink city have been toonarrow to allow the introduction of cars, and tourists searching for the"real" Morocco have turned the medieval structures of Marrakech intogood business.
