Step 1 Structured Writing

1. Introduction to the pattern of a topic sentence supported by details

Ask the students to read para.3 of Text A and find out the topic sentence, its supporting details and the concluding sentence.

2. An oral practice on the topic of How to succeed in college?

Ask the students to do an oral practice on the basis of the outline (P14).

Step 2 Paragraph Translation 

1. Translation from English into Chinese 

Ask the students to go through the paragraph (P15) in about three minutes and try to find out long sentences. The teacher helps the students analyze the sentences structure and then ask some students to translate them into Chinese.

2. Translation from Chinese into English

The teacher introduces some translation skills and provides some key words. Then the students try to do an oral practice.
