7.4 Mechanisms of Elimination Reactions
In this section, you need to know the following information:
1) The E1 Reaction and the E2 Reaction mechanism
2) Differing in the time of C—H and C—X bond breaking
3) E1 reaction: C-X bond breaks first to give acarbocation
intermediate, followed by base removal of aproton to yield the alkene
4) E2 reaction: C-H and C-X bonds break simultaneously, giving the alkene in a single step without intermediate
