5.4    Preparation of Alkenes

In this section, you need to know the following information:

1) Elimination of small molecules HX or H2O from alkyl halides or alcohols

2) Obey Zaitsev 's rule: Elimination reactions favor the most substituted alkenes

3) From alkyl halides by elimination  of HX

4) Dehydrationof alcohols by elimination of H2O

Rearrangement occurs
