5.2  Isomerism of  Alkenes

In this section, you need to know the following information:

1) cis ,trans alkenes

cis -alkenes: the same substituents locate the same sides of the C-C double bond.

trans -alkenes: the same substituents locate the different sides of the C-C double bond.

2) Z, E -alkenes

Z-alkenes: the higher priority substituents locate the the same sides of the C-C double bond.

E-alkenes: the higher priority substituents locate the the different sides of the C-C double bond.
