5.1 Nomenclature of Alkenes

In this section, you need to know IUPAC naming rules and common rules:

1) Alkenes with ene ending

2) Common names with ylene ending 

3) IUPAC naming rules for unbranched alkenes

Step 1: Name the parent hydrocarbon with C-C double bond: choose the longest chain with the C-C double bond, according to the number of carbon atoms to give the parent name

Step 2: Numbering the carbon with the C-C double bond  lowest possible number to determine the number of substituents

Step 3: Write  the name of alkenes with alphabetical order for substituents
