4.3   R, S naming system

In this section, you need to know the following information:

1) Optical isomers exhibit same non-chiral  properties such as melting point, boiling point. 

2)  Optical isomers exhibit different chiral properties,such as optical activity, interaction with chiral molecules.

3)  Sequence rules: a>b>c>d, clockwise for R isomer; counterclockwise for S isomer.

4) You can designate R or S configuration of the wedged structures, Fisher projection.

5) You can designate R or S configurations of one chiral center  or two chiral centers of  Fisher projection.
