4.1 Stereoisomerism
In this section, you need to know the following information:
1) Stereoisomerism: conformational isomer and configurational isomers.
2) Conformational isomer: isomers produced by rotation around C-C single bond
3) Configurational isomers including cis,trans isomers and optical isomers
4) cis,trans isomers : cis isomers mean the same substituents locate the same sides of the ring or double bonds. trans isomers mean the same substituents locate the different sides of the ring or double bonds.
5) Optical isomers: which makes plane polarized light rotate different direction. R isomer, which makes plane polarized light rotate clockwise; S isomer, which makes plane polarized light rotate counterclockwise;
