Warming  up

 
 

I. Give the students time to look at the  picture at the first page of Unit 8. And discuss the following questions:

 

1. Who are they?

 

2. Where are they?

 

3. What are they  looking at?

 

II.  Then show the students some pictures related to different machines. Let them  to listen to the recorder and match the pictures with the words in the box.  (SB, p104)

 

III.  Ask the students the questions:

 

1. Do you know how  to use these devices and machines?

 

2. Have you ever  used them?

 

3. Do you know any  other devices and machines?

 

IV.  Then ask them to listen to a dialogue and do exercise 4 at page 104.

 
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Presentation  of Listening

 
 

I. Tell the  students they are going to listen to a dialogue happened between Susan and  Bill. Look at what’s happening. Teach students how to use the words and  expressions in the box before listening:

 

give somebody a  hand, out of order, problem, button,   printer…

 

II. Ask the  students to listen again and finish exercise 3 at page 105.

 

III. Ask  them to read the dialogue in pairs.

 

IV. Ask the students to act out the  dialogue in pairs according to the example given in exercise 4

 

at page 105.

 

V. Give students  some advices on listening skills, using the learning tips at page 105.

 
 

 

 

 

 

Listening  Practice

 

 

 
 

I. Help the  students learn the new words and expressions by reading aloud after the  recorder.

 

II. Ask the  students to read a short conversation, which has several missing words.

 

III. Ask them to  listen to the conversation and fill in the blanks using the given words in the  box (SB, p106) while listening.

 

IV. Ask  them to do exercise 6 at page 106.
