A: Can you explain briefly what is materials handling?

B: Sure. Materials handling is a branch of engineering and deals withthe short-distance movement of materials between two or more points.

A: What are the concerns about materials handling?

B: The following issues should be considered: the way of handling, thequantity, and the equipment used.

A: I see. Are there any principles associated with this work?

B: Yes. There is a list of 24 principles.

A: What is the first one?

B: The orientation principle. One needs to look at the whole systemfirst to lean how and why it operates. Meanwhile, one should also look at therelationship with other systems and physical limitations.
