5.5 Packing Marks

Packing mark is the mark to facilitate thecargo, transfer, stock or the mark to identify the goods and avoid damage.Packing mark includes shipping mark, indicative mark, and warning mark and soon.

When goods are well enwrapped by the packing,there is no clue to the identification of them. People need certain kind ofindicator to guide their handling of the cargo along the flow of logistics.Marking plays on important role in the use of transport packing. According toits function, marking can be classified into four types: shipping marks, identification marks, indicative marks, and warning marks.

(1) Shippingmarks

Shipping marks are made of some numbers,characters or some simple words. Normally it will be printed on the outerpacking. The contents of shipping mark are as follows:

·          Abbreviations or shored forms ofconsignee’s name: usually the initials or abbreviation ofa consignee.

·          Reference No.: the number of the relevant contract, order, or invoice.

·          Destination.: the name of the port or place ofdestination

·          Marks of pieces

(2) Identification marks

It is also called subsidiary mark. Forexample:

·          CON.NO.:94CL-H08 (合同号)

·          ART.NO.:904A(货号)

·          COLOR:NAVY/GREY(颜色)

·          N.W.:11.3KG(净重)

·          G.W.:16.4KG(毛重)

·          MEAS.:45.5×52×1387.5px(尺码)

·          Countryof Origin: MADE IN CHINA(出产国)

(3) Indicativemarks

Indicative marks are diagrams and simplewords used to remind the relevatnt workers for attention when they handle thegoods in the process of loading, unloading, carrying and storing, such as“HANDLE WITH CARE”, ‘KEEP DRY”, “ USE NO HOOK” , “ THIS WAY UP” , “NO TURINGOVER” and so on.

(4) Warning marks

Warning marks are also called dangerous cargomarks, which is brushed clearly and definitely on the shipping packing of theinflammable, explosive, poisonous, corrosive goods, so as to give warnings tothe workers. Such as “DO NOT ENTER”, “BIOHAARD”, “OXIDIZER”, “INFECTIOUS”, “HIGHVOLTAGE” etc.
